This is a gentle method of stretching specific ISOLATED muscles while requiring the active participation of the person being stretched. Each stretch begins by defining the current range of motion. The target muscle is then stretched beyond that range with a gentle assist, continuing for only 2 seconds. The muscle is then returned to its original resting position.
Benefits of Active Isolated Stretching: decreases or eliminates pain, increases flexibility or range of motion, relieves both physical and mental stress, reduces risk of injury or re-injury, improves posture, eliminates pain and stiffness with many types of arthritis.
