Barefoot Chamber Concerts continues its mission to help you start the weekend right. This Friday evening concert series offers great music in a relaxed setting. The series is committed to musical excellence without the formality of the conventional concert setting. Concerts start at 6 p.m. and last 60-75 minutes without intermission. Light refreshments are available, and there will be ample time to move on to other evening entertainments.

On Friday March 18, 2011, Barefoot will present Agave Baroque (Aaron Westman, violin; Shirley Hunt, viola da gamba; JungHae Kim, harpsichord; Kevin Cooper, guitar) in "Cold Genius" the Music of Henry Purcell.

Purcell, who died at the age of thirty-six, left behind a body of music of such variety and invention that has never since been equaled in England. Extraordinarily prolific from a very young age, he wrote music for court, church, theatre, and private chamber playing. There was no style of music he did not master, and this in an age of great developments in English music. The restoration of the monarchy brought about a tremendous resurgence of interest in all sorts of music in England, and Purcell was very much in the eye of that perfect storm.
