Novelist, screenwriter, playwright, and darkly funny satirist Seth Greenland in conversation with SF Chronicle TV Critic David Wiegand

From his work on HBO's "Big Love" to his works of fiction, Seth Greenland excels at satiric exposes of the darker side of human nature. Southern California public radio calls latest book, "The Angry Buddhist," "a romp of a novel" for this election season, pitting a sleazy congressman against a Sarah Palin doppleganger in a SoCal election of criminal proportions. And, of course, featuring a lesbian love affair complete with matching alcohol-influenced Manga kitty tattoos, a murder, and a political blogger dubbed "Desert Machiavelli."

The LA Times calls the novel ruthless, messy, and entertaining. "The delighted reader soon discovers that for Greenland politics is no noble calling but an emblem of 'the florid culture of modern America,' an anarchistic dog-eat-dog world in which campaign managers shoot for new heights of Darwinian ruthlessness," Richard Rayner wrote in his review for the paper. Published last year in France to great acclaim, "The Angry Buddhist" has already been snapped up for a TV series by Showtime.

Seth will be in San Francisco exclusively for this Litquake conversation with David Wiegand at the intimate Variety Preview Room downtown.

"The Angry Buddhist is a great novel. It's satirical, it's political, it's sexual. All things I love dearly. Finally, something to come home to." -- Larry David
