The Long Beach Camerata Singers "Blast!" choral music to the future with the first concert of our season in a program that showcases the power of the organ in combination with choir, percussion and children's choir, featuring renowned virtuoso organist Jung-A Lee in works by Herbert Howells and Ralph Vaughan Williams. The CSUF Percussion Ensemble, harpist Ellie Choate and the Manhattan Beach Middle School Chorus join the Camerata Singers and organ in ground-breaking new works by young composers Tarik O'Regan, Jonathan Dove, and indie rock darling Nico Muhly. The concert presents the world premiere of Ken Walicki's "just like a dream experience", a work for chorus, organ, percussion and harp based on a Buddhist text. Walicki. known for breaking rules and building bridges, uses a unique combination of Art, Pop, Jazz and World Music in his sound world. The program culminates in a performance of Leonard Bernstein's beloved Chichester Psalms. This work-arguably one of Bernstein's finest-is infused with echoes of West Side Story and Candide, and remains an audience favorite throughout the world.
