Our longtime history and commitment to promoting the arts now embraces creative culturally relevant programs to address violence prevention, leadership development, and academic enrichment for young people in the Mission District. Some of our major accomplishments in this area over the past few years include:
• Piloting a weekend nighttime entertainment program for the highest-risk youth, “forgotten San Franciscans” from our city’s southeastern neighborhoods - we hosted nine events that served more than 400 young people ages 10-19.
• Highly successful collaboration with Horizons Unlimited to produce Mission Urban
Arts, an after school program serving over 250 at-risk youth each year, primarily recent immigrants and monolingual Spanish speakers;
• Piloted the Tupac Amaru, “If you Believe You Can Achieve” Recording Academy for high-risk youth ages 12-24 years, currently involved in street gangs.

While we have expanded our program offerings significantly to serve youth of color in a very comprehensive way, we’ve also maintained the services that we offer for the adult artist community of San Francisco. This includes: the nine visual art studios that we rent out to artists for workspace, the events we hold on a weekly basis, the classes that we offer, the communal workspace that we provide, the fine arts gallery that we manage, and the affordable rehearsal space that we offer. CELLspace has become a strong organization that makes its resources available to the local community. We take pride in the fact that our work is a true grassroots effort – all of our programs started from the ground, using the energy volunteers and very little funding.

In order to continue this work, serving the 80,000 people that walk through our donors each year, we need community support. We are asking our colleagues to purchase a ticket to our Anniversary Gala for $20 in advance or $25 at the door of the event so that you can join us in celebration of our ten years of success.
