After a year of internal political change and increasing domestic violence, including the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan remains at the center of international concerns about terrorism and nuclear proliferation. The resurgence of the Taliban in Afghanistan and the continuing concern about nuclear issues in the Middle East and South Asia put Pakistan in the spotlight. What can Pakistan do to alleviate international concerns? Why are the problems along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border so intractable? What are the options for a new American administration?
