Artist reception Sat, May 11, 6-8pm; exhibit May 7 through June 28, 2013

Market Street Gallery is very ecstatic to announce humility; a solo exhibition by local artist, Skip Cullen. His new exhibit "Humility" re-contextualizes the wooden palette as an object of consumption and individuality. He covers the surfaces with an industrial airplane coating to reference the idea of the new. The objects however are still constrained by the jagged and irregular form of used lumber. Unlike other artists working in this vein such as Jeff Koons or Takeshi Mirikami, Cullen seeks to bring an air of humility to the conversation around "the new". Cullen will also be giving weekly performances on his black painting in which one layer of paint has been applied to everyday from 2007 until death. Painting performances will be open to the public each Saturday at noon during the exhibit. The exhibit will open May 7, 2013, and run through June 28, 2013. The artist reception will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013, from 6 PM - 8 PM.
