You are invited to SMP Tech's "Meet the Experts" May 9, 2012, complimentary Forum on Plastic Injection Molding. At this Forum, our experts will describe the definition of a 'good' plastic part and the steps and considerations in designing it. The presentations will include tips on the best compromise of part design for function, tool construction, material selection, processing constraints, and long-term part stability.

We are excited to have Howard Mullin as our featured speaker. With engineering degrees from the University of Michigan and a background in sales and tech service of plastic resins for Diamond Shamrock Corporation, Howard has been in the plastic molding business for 40 years - 20 of those as owner of his own injection molding company. Howard is now president of Control Plastics, which has a staff of over 60 engineers between the Taipei and Shenzhen offices. The majority of his business is in medical equipment and devices.

Howard will explain why plastic injection molding yields inexpensive costs per parts and what the engineering considerations are that need to be evaluated to obtain long-lasting, reliable parts. Factors such as tooling, minimum dimensions, draft, wall thickness variations, deterioration, tolerances and warp will be presented in detail.

We are also glad to have Alan Federl, Growth Leader for the West Region at SABIC. Alan has been in the Plastics Industry for 30 years, working in a variety of commercial and technical roles for SABIC and formerly, GE Plastics. A graduate of Case Western Reserve's School of Engineering, Alan specializes in a variety of Engineering Resin Solutions and has been located in California for eight years.

Alan will provide information on the various plastics available for Healthcare applications and to present a new SABIC guide that compares different manufacturing processes to each other. The goal being to simplify the decision-making process for engineering at the OEM level.
