Zikr is Remembrance through repetition, a Prayer-in-Motion. It raises one to deeper contact. With live music accompaniment, this zikr will lead the public using voice, movement and inspiration. Postneshin Jelaleddin Loras, the founder of the Mevlevi Order of America (the U.S. sect of the Whirling Dervish Sufi order), is visiting from his home in Konya, Turkey and will lead this special event.

Loras was raised and trained in the Mevlevi community of Konya. Under his father's instruction he came to America over 30 years ago with the tasks of creating centers and training western students. Having grown up in a tradition that has spanned over 700 years, Loras offers depth and illumination in both his being and teachings.

In addition to this Friday evening zikr, Postneshin Loras will also lead a Sunday afternoon workshop. This workshop will offer instruction in the turn of the Whirling Dervish as well as an opportunity to ask questions. This is his first visit to the Bay Area in over a year and promises to be full of light and unexpected teachings.
