The San Francisco Film Society will open SFFS Screen, an innovative exhibition partnership with Sundance Cinemas that will enable the Film Society to present its acclaimed film programs and events at the Sundance Kabuki Cinemas year-round on a daily basis, beginning Friday, June 13.

The first film to play is Times and Winds (Bes vakit, Turkey 2006, SFIFF 2007), a hypnotic portrait of village life written and directed by Reha Erdem, will launch SFFS Screen. Islamic faith dictates that prayer is the solution for the inevitable tragedy that is life. In Erdem’s extraordinarily beautiful fourth feature, childhood life in a rural village on a mountain overlooking the sea is the incubator for an examination of that pain as experienced through the eyes of three very different children. Their youthful internal struggles play out against a natural backdrop of passing hours, changing seasons and rural tradition. This award-winning feature emerges as one of the more thoughtful depictions of childhood and rural life in recent memory. Özkan Özen, Ali Bey Kayal, Elit Iscan and Bülent Emin Yarar play key roles, and the spiritual compositions of Arvo Pärt are a stirring enhancement to the stunning wide screen cinematography of Florent Henry.
