132 Eddy Street
San Francisco, California 94102

Join a group of artists, troublemakers and people who are just curious about the world to play a street game of blind photography designed to challenge how we see.

THE GOAL: to take pictures by using intuition, instinct and your other senses while exploring what it might be like to be visually impaired. Yet, this experience isn't about blindness. The challenge is about seeing, noticing, and paying attention with more than your eyes - a very different way to experience your city.

Participants will take on increasingly difficult photographic assignments (in pairs) as they explore their city blindfolded and share their images and stories immediately afterwards.

The photographs from this San Francisco event (and from a similar event in Brooklyn) will be exhibited at a party and salon in conjunction with the new book SEEING BEYOND SIGHT at San Francisco's 111 Minna Gallery on May 17. For an invitation to this event and more details email [email protected]

The Photography Challenge is an experiential extension of a new book called, Seeing Beyond Sight: Photographs by Blind Teenagers (Chronicle Books, April 2007). More info: www.seeingbeyondsight.org
