Two summer Shakespeare camps for youth will take place in Santa Clara at the Santa Clara University campus.
The first session, for ages 7-13, will be held weekdays from June 18-29, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. The second session, a teen camp for ages 12-18, will be held weekdays from August 6-August 17, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Each two-week session includes a series of performance-oriented workshops where children will learn about acting and improvisation, voice projection, Shakespearean language and set and costume design. Instructors are well-trained adults, many with college degrees in the theater arts and acting experience.
"Three of our Santa Clara teaching artists are well-acquainted with the University and the programs it hosts," says San Francisco Shakespeare Festival Executive Director Toby Leavitt. "Will Brown, who will teach at the Teen Camp, is a Santa Clara University graduate and Jennie Debevec will be returning to the campus as a Teen Camp instructor for her fourth summer.
"Osma Dossani attended six consecutive Shakespeare Camp sessions from 2000-2005. She worked as an intern at last summer's Teen Camp and will return this June as a teaching artist for the 7-13-year-old camp."
At 2:00 p.m. on the final day of each camp, campers will stage their own mini-performance of a Shakespearean play for family and friends. A cast party will follow the performance.
Cost for each Shakespeare Camp session is $395. Aftercare for 7-13-year-olds is $125.
