Web of Change and MaRS are pleased to announce the Social Tech Training (STT) – a unique hands-on Web 2.0 oriented learning intensive for people working in the social change sector.

The Social Tech Training will offer participants from diverse organizations across North America a rare opportunity to connect with and learn from their peers and the best and brightest industry leaders in the social technology space. Each participant will emerge with new technical, creative, and leadership skills, a powerful network, and a customized, comprehensive “Web 2.0 Plan” for their host organization.

Why an STT? The interest in Web 2.0 tools inside social change organizations is growing rapidly, and yet the talent pool of people equipped to understand, prioritize, and implement these tools and ideas remains limited. Skilled consultants are in high demand, yet are expensive and project success requires internal culture change and staff commitment for the long haul. Graduates of this training will be well prepared to take on stronger and more senior roles inside organizations that are ready to shift towards new web tools and the underlying greater transparency, openness, and participation models necessary for their success.

This training is an excellent opportunity to connect to the big picture, develop practical skills required to execute, and network with both leaders and learners in this emerging space. We are excited to be part of this transformation of the social change sector. Please join us!
When:

June 22 - 24, 2008 (three full days)
Where:

MaRS Centre, in Toronto's high-tech Discovery District (101 College Street at University)
Who:

Communications and/or web staff from social change organizations across Canada and the US. Maximum 65 participants – register early to avoid disappointment.

Please note the learning framework requires at least one member of your senior leadership team participate in this process, in order to ensure that your plan is properly implemented. See below for more information.

Format:

This event will run for three full days, including two evening events, and will be facilitated by a team of senior leaders from the Web of Change community. Organizations are invited to send one representative to this training, which will balance both prepared, curated content with emergent topics, and be highly collaborative and participative in nature.

In advance of the training, all participating organizations will be asked to develop a working “change team” (including executive directors and senior communications & / or fundraising staff) to set holistic organizational intentions. Specific sessions will be opened up via video-conference technology to include participation from this change team back home, to enhance the learnings and ensure the success of the plans created.
Cost:

The full cost of this event is $895 including all meals – accommodation is separate. Thanks to the generous partnership with MaRS and SIG, we are able to offer this to all organizations at $695. If needed, further subsidies may be available – please inquire.
Registration:

We are currently accepting names for application. Please email Sarah Pullman to apply. Official online registration will be available soon.
