The University Co-op presents the Cohen New Works Festival is an interdisciplinary arts festival hosted by The University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre & Dance that only comes around every two years. The 2007 Festival will be the fourth Festival in eight years, and is comprised of 29 works, 98 performances, and 11 workshops. The Festival is full of provocative new work of theatre, dance, music, film, design, visual art, and architecture by UT students, Austin community members, and renowned guest artists. Works from past Festivals have gone on to be produced by larger venues, such as the Paramount, who produced the play Night Swim after it premiered at the Festival. This year, our artists have stretched the limits of creativity in developing works ranging from an interactive classical music performance, to a highly animated short movie, to a dance performed on the vertical wall of a building, and everything in between. Our professional guest artists will be performing in the Festival and providing feedback to student artists, but will also be available to the public at organized lunches. Audiences have plenty of involvement opportunities, including talkbacks with student artists after each performance. The best part is that all Festival performances, even guest artist performances, are completely free.
